Girlpie is getting a lot better at biking along. She's still the slow, but was working hard to keep up with her friend. Tuber insisted on bringing his push bike to the park and so his neighbor peer S rode in the peapod on the Xtra and Tuber sat in the Sorte alone with his bike and some animal crackers.
We had a fabulous time at the park. Then as we were getting ready to leave a man biked by with his son biking behind him. The bike was slick and hot and um, green. the front rack was sturdy with bungee cords on it. I stared, pivoted and rubbernecked as he passed me. Then I began waving and shouting "excuse me!!" after him. He stopped and I ran over and asked him who made his bike. He said " It's an ANT bike". I laughed and said "OMG, I thought it was!" I talked about how I was just looking at bikes and thinking about that very same color.
He just got his bike, so he thinks it's probably the green bike shown online. He loves it and said that while he expected a lot out of it due to the price, it exceeded his expectations and he is extremely happy. He said " If you are ever able to spend this amount on a bike, I highly recommend it" I told him I couldn't wait to turn 40. He being probably 55 or older looked at me a bit strangely, smiled and said his good byes.
On our way home I had some issues with Tuber. He was enjoying his push bike too much to sit in the box. We let him push it about two blocks to the main road and then I forced him in b/c we had a mile to go and dinner to make. He was not pleased. I had to lock the canopy again and he screamed and trashed around and at once stood up pressing his face against the windows yelling at me. I smiled at him and biked along. I felt badly for him, yet if we were driving, it would have been the same thing and I would have been stuck in the car with him screaming. Girlpie would end up screaming to, yelling that he was being too loud and hurting her ears. I would feel tense and in our bubble of the car would probably start yelling my own self asking everyone to STOP YELLING and let mama drive. Instead, Tuber fogged up the windows, the noise was muted out a bit, I pumped my legs faster to get home as fast a possible and enjoyed that nice tight feeling where my thigh and bum connect telling me my body was working nicely hard. I had sun shine on my face, breeze in my hair and the world around to see me so I was on my best behavior smiling and cooing at my red faced screaming child. All in all, I was amazed at how stable the bike was while Tuber seriously thrashed and banged and flailed. If we were on the Xtra he would have scratched my back raw and probably pitched us over with his movements.
So yeah, it's been mine for a full month now, and I really freaking love that Sorte.
The ANT - IT'S A SIGN!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love how you describe the family traveling situation you had going on there. He was screaming so loud, he fogged up the canopy - hilarious. Definitely good for you that you were on the outside.
I think my family biking niche will be biking with tantruming children! i kept thinking, what do danish mom's do? I wish copenhagen chic would post a pic of some screaming child. That would make me happy. Maybe that's my job- to show the hard parts and how to get through it. Like right now- no one want to bike to the coffee shop. It's gorgeous out and I sure don't want to drive... how we deal with it? I don't know, stay tuned :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's totally a sign! I am going to have P help me with my measurements for the ANT order form & send it in with the deposit. Scary but wonderful & damn, I'm turning 40 & isn't this a better gift than even a trip?!
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you love your Sorte. I so feel the same about my bakfies. I left school at regular dismissal time, & the boys & I hopped in/on & rode downtown for Ashely's ice cream for them, yummy iced coffee for me. I ended up chatting with a really nice family about the baks & then we took our time riding home. Freeing, freeing, freeing.
hey--here's the freezer paper step-by-step thing if you are interested. it really is fun:

MV- I have a Bobike seat on the back of my Batavus, and my 4 year old is always falling asleep in it while we ride. It only has a lap belt, so I am afraid he will fall out while we are speeding down the road. I am always having to keep him awake by poking him or pinching his nose- something that will get him good and mad so he will start screaming "I'm not SLEEPING!!!" at me and wake up. As there is no canopy, I, and everyone within 3 blocks of us, gets the full brunt of his screeching. I just have to laugh and keep pedaling. We get some funny looks.
