bad bike day

So bad I didn't even take a picture.

I've been riding to the train all week and I have heard a clicking noise around the rear but didn't pay it any mind. Perhaps thursday or weds, I swore I heard something fall off the bike, but I couldn't see it and couldn't imagine what it could be.

Today after walking the bike and kids to the camp bus stop I tried to park it in my usual out of the way spot by backing it up and the rear wheel froze. I leaned in to inspect and saw that the bolt that connected the rear rack and rear brake to the frame was gone.

I was having a horrible morning so far anyway and so once the bus rolled away I decided to try to ride slowly to the train station. I stayed on the sidewalk in case of trouble but the sidewalks are all bumpy due to frost heaves and roots and a few bumps tossed the rack down the wheel. Of course I didn't realize this for a block or two and when I stopped to check it my eyes didn't even want to register that the rack and my bag clamped in it were hanging out at the bottom of the rear wheel fender. But once I did, I saw my fender was scratched.

So I walked the bike the .25 miles to the station and bungeed the rack to the frame and locked her up.

Coming home I had a slow ride down hill and luckily B came home early and was able to move my brake completely out of the way so I could ride to Harris without any parts bumping and grinding. I rode so slowly since I only had a front brake to work with and arrived at Harris 20 minutes before closing.

I left the little orange sunshine there to get fixed up and thankfully she will be ready to take with us to cape cod tomorrow.

funny how I make sure my bike is working. My car really needed to be looked at this week but I never brought it in. But my bike- no way can it be mildly out of wack.

  1. Sometimes, lessons are learned by having stuff go bad. Happens with us all...

  2. We all have bad bike days. Happily, not as often as bad hair days though. I've enjoyed reading your last several posts about your new bike. All the excitement of a new love, isn't it?

  4. Hi,
I was wondering if you knew if your Sorte is 2 wheel drive in front, or is just one wheel connected to the chain? Also, liked your comparing the Box Bike to the Sorte, thanks for your help

  5. Thanks all, bike fixed quick at Harris. Now on cape with it, but no kid free time to ride it! In a few weeks camp!

Ermacoff, I have no clue!!! Glad the comparison was helpful.
