orange and blue

My lovely new lady. Yesterday I rode over to Harris to have my light bracket tightened, to have the mirror installed ( although now I just see myself in it- NOT the cars :-/) and to have the rack secured on better. I installed the racks myself but it needed a little expert attention. Also when I put my stem on, I did something and got the rear brake cable caught up so my rear braking was not working well. Now she's all set and pretty much how I need her to be to get around town. I have a basket and I need some panniers. I just don't know what to pick. I've thought of the colorful ones Public is selling. I am wary of adding too much weight though as I am want to do...

In any case, I cannot wait to go to work tomorrow and ride to the train station. The kids are in camp for the next two weeks so I am going to be riding her everywhere. I hope to push some boundaries and ride her over to a meeting in Watertown on Friday with a breakfast stop at Sofra in Cambridge beforehand! I'm nervous about it but I think I can do it.

I am realizing- this is really my first normal two wheeler. The townie was a funky ride. Then it was an Xtracycle. And the Sorte is - well the Sorte. And the Halfway is a foldie and had it's limitations. It's like I'm a newbie all over again.

Yay for summer bike new love.

  1. You'd be kicking yourself if you had passed on those wonderful racks!

  2. Although, if you load those racks up, you may want a double-legged kickstand.

  3. Yes steve, there is no way I'd have the bike without the racks!! and yes- it's a bit tippy with the basket on the front. The kicstand that it comes with is fairly good but.....

  4. A defloppelator might help with a loaded front rack. I ended up making my own with some springs and a downtube clamp.

And I've never had much luck with a rear-view mirror on a bike. They never stay aligned, I always spend too long trying to figure out WTF I am looking at, when I ought to be looking forward. But other people seem to love them.

  5. I love it, it is so pretty! You will be pedalling everywhere. I'm using my pashley as much as my cargo trike now. I added a rear rack, and then a Hello Kitty cusion bungeed on and school runs on it are possible (if a little wobbly)

still riding the cargo trike though as if I don't go on it often I will lose all the strength I've had to work so hard to build up on it.

    happy riding

We bought beautiful Clarijs Panniers that would lovely on your new bike. I see that Public Bike sells them on their site.

Meanwhile your helmet (different covering) is in August's O Magazine "Favorite Things." Seriously-- Yakkay in O Magazine. Wild!
