racks rule.

This week the kids have been in Camp. They take the bus and get on at 8:10 and the bus returns around 4:40-5. That is a lot of time of kid free time isn't it!

This week I worked a few days and got to play the other days. Best is I lived a 95% carfree life all week. I did have to use my car to pick the kids up one afternoon in order to get them to a birthday party that started the same time camp ended and was one town away. But other than that timing issue- I haven't used my car at all and have been really enjoying getting to know the public so much more.

But more importantly I realized, this is really my first real two wheeler. I am discounting the Townie b/c that flat footed technology which intrigued me as a new rider who needed to put her full foot down- really wrecked my knees and gave me the wrong impression about bike fit and efficient pedaling. My halfway has not enough cargo to really use it the way I need to. So this week has been all about testing the limits of my two racks, bungee cords, Rat Traps and basket. It's been a lot of fun.

After work I ran by whole foods for a rotisserie chicken, black beans and bread for a summer chicken and rice salad we love. I also have my work tote with clip board and pad underneath the bread. A two pack of Epi-pen Jrs. are tucked into the basket as well.
I was caught without a reusable shopping bag when I dropped by the toy store for a birthday present for the aforementioned birthday party. Some art supplies for the kids are int here as well.
I shift my basket from front to back depending on my mood. I've got it on the rear rack now as it was too noisey from pot holes and effects my steering a little as I tend to make it heavy. My LV bag is on the rear rack in this picture but by the end of the week it resides on the front rack. I think it looks tres chic on either rack personally.

Thursday I spent the day in Boston. I did a bit of window shopping and well, that turned into real shopping and I am glad I was able to fit an art book from the MFA, Lush products, two pair of sale pants ( I refused a bag at that store and they are in with the MFA stuff) and I had to stop at whole foods again for some fresh pasta and sauce for Pasta Thursdays.

I forgot to take a picture of my basket filled with veggies from the farmer's market and my yoga mat snapped on the front rack when I went to Yoga Weds.

My favorite parking spot from two wheelers or three at the T station. I can't bare to crowd her in the small bike rack with all of those beat up bikes. So I keep her all on her own by the railing. And it's the only place with enough space for the Cargo trike.

  1. Is that a Cateye 520 headlight? If so, have you been able to put rechargeable batteries in it without it breaking? If you haven't tried, don't unless you have your LBS mechanic do it so you get a new light if it breaks.

  2. No steve, it's some European light that one plugs in to recharge. I love it. Except the bracket was on loose and every pothole made it face the ground. The bike me h tightened it perfectly, but this bike doesn't have a saddle bag to carry it during daylight so it's been on...

  3. Just catching up on your blog and the new bike. So you paid $700? The way I see it is you use it for 3 years, sell it for $100 or whatever if you want something different then, and your cost of use per year is $200, which is something like $16/month. It probably cost about that much to rent a bike for a couple of hours. Enjoy! You will save that much a month in gas money, not to mention the health benefits of getting out and riding.
My oldest daughter is probably going to buy a single speed Huffy or Schwinn from WalMart or Target to take to college. They actually have fairly decent bikes for $90 to $120. She doesn't want anything that someone will want to steal, and it will have to be store outdoors. If it lasts just a year and she gives it to charity, that's ok, too.

  4. Very nice! The LV on the rear rack is tres chic. :)

Totally random, but I love those Whole Foods rotisserie chickens. We get one every Tuesday when they're on sale for $5.99.
