Cold and sick family ride.

My Saturday plan had been to ride to Russo's with the kids and get pumpkins. Then later ride them to a Halloween party and get some grocery shopping in.

However, the party was cancelled due to a freezing wintery mix that is coming our way. I also needed cat food. And I woke up with a big head cold. Sitting on the couch between the kids huddled under a blanket, I thought, " oh my head hurts. We'll just drive to the vet". I enticed the kids with images of pancakes at The Knotty Pine and a trip to the Aurburndale Community Library.

We set out and Girlpie shouted "Bike! Bike!". I paused and realized that I had no excuse except that I felt kinda like crap. So we took the bike.

It was cold. Luckily I put on a soft wool turtleneck and wore my super warm Patagonia fleece with puff vest over that. Sadly because I had locked the door before the bike decision I didn't have my scarf. Keeping my neck über warm is crucial all winter long so that's really where I felt it.

The bike was mostly charged which was good because we travelled Comm Ave's hilly carriage lane. I found that fresh air does make one feel better, especially if one could relax and let the motor do the work when I felt SOB. Although, I did push myself exertion wise at some times to make heat.

I wished we all had warmer clothing, but I think we made it without getting much sicker. 5.5 miles round trip. From home to The Knotty Pine, walked to library, a quick few block's ride to the vet and then the whole 2.7 miles on home. The kids were a bit punky. Girlpie doesn't quite fit under wind/ rain shield and they faught and shoved a lot. Two blocks from home Tuber was made to walk behind us for hitting and unreasonable behavior. Even thought it was a less than perfect trip ( cold, ill behavior) it was good to be out and about for 2 hours before the wintery mix comes. I'm happily back under the covers but at least we did something today.

(Punky kids jockeying for position and elbow room to read books)

I also rocked some VC riding at a big intersection. The carriage lane shoots into regular traffic for about a block and often times I hop on the side walk to avoid getting in the middle Straight Only lane. However Saturday morning, traffic was light and I was second in line with no one behind me and it was nice and easy.
(I set myself up to wait at the light in the lane that car is in)
I still need pumpkins, but Monday proves to be warmer. Or I'll send B out for them tomorrow.

  1. For the past week I keep starting to get sick, then feeling better, then feeling sick again - like my immune system is playing games with me. Annoying, and the weather is not helping!

Really glad to see how nicely the trike is working for you.
