The public winter ride.

Woke up today to a dusting of snow on the ground. So thankful that I didn't have to scrape off my car at all. At 8AM all was cold and frosty. But I knew by the middle of the day it would all be gone.

I walked the kids to the school bus and then prepared to meet a friend for chit chat at the Keltic Krust in West Newton.

I rode the public as I wanted to drop by Harris to have my double kickstand bolt tightened. It had loosened up a lot and in my messing around to get it to work properly I had bent a piece of the fender and it was rubbing on the tire. B fixed the fender issue and tightened it up as much as he could but I needed some extra TLC.

I for the first time wore a full on Ski Jacket and outfit. It wasn't that cold out- def not as cold as it was last week, but I really wanted to be warm and toasty and choose warmth over style.

After coffee and some really good talking I dropped by Harris to chat and have the kickstand worked on. I need to come back and change out the brake pads for some kool stops and my stopping power is ok, but could be better.

After Harris I stopped at The Barn which is a family shoe store in West Newton on WAshington street. I had forgotten to buy Tuber snow boots and today's dusting reminded me that I should really pick up a pair before it really snows. Grabbed a pair in his size and then moved on a few blocks down to Trader Joe's for some snack and my favorite Habanero Tortillas. And then on home.
Boots did fit well in pannier, but I prefer the trike for loading up on cargo

It was nice to feel that flying on two wheels feeling. It's been a while since I rode the public as I prefer the boxbike as a winter bike. I rode the boxbike yesterday, and even though yesterday's milage was quite small ( I parked in Newtonville and then walked about Newtonville to do what I needed to get done) it was nice to get in and out without much effort or fanfare. I also find dressing warm enough difficult on the public. Coming home I overheated as the temps has risen and I worked up some good heat coming up hill. Yet dressed any less warm would have made me frozen earlier as I rode down the hill. On the boxbike I have a tail wind no matter which way I go so I can just focus on bundling.
Since I haven't been using the public my xmas swag has been mostly unseen :-(

It's been a mild winter so far. Back in the fall I told myself that if it was really cold and snowy I would take off the months of Jan and Feb, but I am not really slowing down in any way yet.
