riding, driving- getting around in Feb.

Still here. Still riding here and there. It's an unspoken rule of mine that I kinda take Jan and Feb off of biking. In the past it has been too snowy. It's been a mild winter this year, yet I am tired of winter and am ready for warm spring like weather. So I end up biking these days mostly because my body and soul couldn't stand doing anything else and less out of some feeling of should... Mostly this means rides that are one mile long or so. Anything over that feels like work.

A few weeks ago I had a night meeting at it seemed cold and I was tired. I asked B " should I ride?" and once he found out where I was going- a location a mile away- he said " Oh you should totally ride- it will be nice and relaxing. It was. A week later I had another cold night ride to a meeting. The village center is so quiet at 9 at night, wood smoke in the air.

And yesterday it felt really good to wear a fleece and puff vest home from yoga. It was cold going dow the hill at 9AM. But post workout and coffee and errands at 12:15 it was balmy and nice.

The public feeling like a convertible sports car on a nice day.

I'm not hardcore. I'm not into "perfect attendance" on the saddle. I'm just into listening to my body and enjoying the day. Also the knowledge that each car ride I take is a luxury, not a necessity and thus is actually enjoyed.

Suburban Bike Mama is all about balance and doing what works.

Something good for us all to remember each day.

  2. Hi MamaVee! I found your blog from Car Free in Cambridge. I'm looking for local test rides of cargo bikes--any chance we could take your Christiana for a spin?

  4. I'm the same way this time of year. I just don't like dealing with a lot of ice and slipping and sliding around. I almost took a spill the other day while making my way home from the gym on my bike. Someday, though I get those studded tires.

  6. I remember hating to ride when it got super cold too. Also I always tended to live in areas where they were very sloppy about plowing the snow properly. But yes, balance.

  7. I read your blog about once every hundred years or so but when I do I ALWAYS think I should check in more. You sound like the people who tried to tell me when I was too dumb to listen. See you here tomorrow.
